The Hammond DDD and Tangipahoa Chamber of Commerce Host the Biggest Lion Up Tuesday of The Year!

Last Updated 10/6/2022

Welcome home, Lions!

The Hammond Downtown Development District & Tangipahoa Chamber revamped their involvement in Southeastern's Homecoming week. Both organizations took over Lion Up Tuesday on October 4th to bring the community the biggest Lion Up Tuesday of the year! The day involved local retail and restaurant specials, a storefront decorating contest, and ended with Railroad Roar! The day was a success as it helped spread Southeastern's Homecoming Week throughout our business community.

Wear Your Green and Gold & Shop Local

Members of the community were encouraged to wear green & gold to support our Southeastern Lions when shopping and dining locally, and you all did exactly that! The DDD and Tangipahoa Chamber promoted business specials for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to enhance morale and hometown pride. Our community showed up for our local businesses for all of their shopping, sipping, and snacking needs!

Business Activities

Businesses within the DDD or who are Tangipahoa Chamber members were invited to participate in the storefront window decorating contest. Windows were to be decorated following the theme "Roomie in the Jungle". After a tough judging process  (all of your windows were amazing!) by members of the Hammond DDD, Tangipahoa Chamber, and SLU SGA , the winners were decided. The winners of the contest are:

  • Wonder Collective (1st place)
  • Stiel Insurance (2nd place)
  • Shack's Restaurant (3rd place).

  • The winners will receive advertising packages worth between $1,000-$2,000 for the month of November!

Railroad Roar

Railroad Roar was hosted in partnership with the Southeastern Alumni Association in Railroad Park to end Lion Up Tuesday. The event included live music by Bottom's Up, who are also alumni of SLU! We thank members of our community who stopped by local restaurants and picked up dinner to-go and enjoyed while you listened to some great music. Cate Street Seafood Station even showed up with free sushi! Railroad Roar was the perfect ending to a spirit-filled day, bringing together families and friends through music, food, and a sense of community.

The Hammond DDD also held a dedication ceremony for individuals who purchased a bench in Railroad Park. Thank you all for your generous contributions to our city.
