Hot August Night 2021
has been postponed.
New date will be announced ASAP.

After careful consideration, the Hammond Downtown Development District and its Board of Directors regret to announce the official postponement of its Hot August Night event, which was originally scheduled for August 27, 2021. The DDD Board of Directors met during a special session on August 8, 2021, where the decision to postpone was passed unanimously.
This announcement comes after gathering detailed input from many Downtown Hammond merchants who wish to help protect the health of not only their customers, but the Hammond community as a whole.
“Bars and restaurants in Downtown are encouraging the postponement,” said Dan Lambert, owner of Cate Street Pub and Mr. Mule’s Kitchen. “I think the people should know that we are socially responsible and that we care about the health and well-being of our community.”

The DDD also requested the professional opinion of Dr. Robert Peltier, Chief Medical Officer at North Oaks Health System.
“Based upon the above situation in which our community finds itself, it is my recommendation that all large gatherings of individuals, including Hot August Night, be postponed to a later date when the percent positivity and the incidence of infections in our community and the subsequent pressure on the healthcare systems in our state return to a manageable level,” said Peltier. “An event such as Hot August Night proceeding would signal to the public that social distancing and personal interactions do not contribute to the spread of disease.”

A new date will be announced later this year.

All vendors and merchants who have paid Hot August Night fees will be credited for the future event date. Those who wish to be completely refunded should contact DDD Executive Director Chelsea Tallo Little via email at [email protected]

"A South Louisiana Tradition in the Heart of Downtown Hammond"

The Hammond Downtown Development District is thrilled to announce the return of Hot August Night to Downtown Hammond. This year’s event will take place Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5:30pm-10:00pm. This year also marks Hot August Night’s 25th Anniversary, and the DDD encourages the community to help celebrate the milestone.

Hot August Night is a Downtown Hammond tradition and one of South Louisiana’s most anticipated annual events. It’s a family-friendly and free-to-attend celebration in the heart of the downtown district. Musicians, local artists, and small businesses provide quality entertainment for all ages, cultivating a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that can only be found in #HammondAmerica!
Marc Broussard, “Bayou-Soul” singer-songwriter and Louisiana native, will be this year’s featured musical act. His style is best described as a mix of funk, blues, R&B, rock and pop, matched with distinct Southern roots. Broussard has released eight studio albums, one live album, three EPs, and has charted twice on Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks. This year’s event will also feature community favorites like the Wine Walk, LionPawLooza (parade, pep rally, and autograph session with your favorite SLU student-athletes), and more.

It's the 25th Anniversary! Come celebrate with us!

"I love the open and welcoming atmosphere of Hot August Night. It's like the whole downtown district becomes a friend's front porch."

In addition to live music and family activities, Hot August Night is also a perfect chance for businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations throughout the region to potentially reach over 12,000 new customers in a single evening. Those interested in participating in Hot August Night must apply prior to the event and are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

This is for those outside of the Downtown District who would like to purchase booth space during Hot August Night 2021. This is open to businesses, non-profits, groups, clubs, etc.

Headliner: Marc Broussard

Marc Broussard is an acclaimed Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist who was raised in Carencro, Louisiana and Lafayette, Louisiana. His style is best described as "Bayou Soul", a mix of funk, blues, R&B, rock and pop, matched with distinct Southern roots. He has released eight studio albums, one live album, three EPs, and has charted twice on Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks. (The full music lineup will be released at a later date.)

Marc Broussard will take the stage at 8:45 PM and play until the event ends at 10:00 PM.

Opening Act: The Dominos

The Hammond Downtown Development District is proud to have The Dominos as the Opening Act at this year's Hot August Night! They will play from 6:45 PM to 8:30 PM.

Joe Abene's rich voice brings to mine the "blue-eyed soul" of the 60's. Charlene Kelly will remind you of Aretha and Irma, and Joey Milazzo adds swamp pop and contemporary lead vocals to the mix.

With a full horn section and talented background singers, The Dominos faithfully recreate studio quality covers and original songs while putting on a great show. The Dominos are consistently voted best band in the local area, and a favorite of fans along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Wine Walk

The Hot August Night Wine Walk gives community members a chance to visit some of their favorite local businesses while sampling a wide array of wine selections. This year, tickets will be available for presale. Pricing and purchasing details will be released at a later date. (Only those who are 21 years of age and older are allowed to participate in the Wine Walk.)

LionPawLooza is an explosion of SLU Lion Pride, right in the middle of Downtown Hammond. It begins with a parade down E. Thomas St, featuring SLU student-athletes, coaches, spirit squads, and (of course!) Roomie the Lion. The parade ends right in front of the main stage; and then the pep rally begins! Show your spirt with the cheerleaders, Lionettes, and Colorguard. Then the fun wraps up with a full autograph session where you can meet some of your favorite SLU coaches and players. You can also buy tickets and merch during LionPawlooza! The parade kicks off at 6:00pm and the pep rally follows immediately after on the Main Stage.

Merchant Activities

Part of what makes Hot August Night so special is the open doors of our unique, locally-owned businesses. Each business in the district does something special to WOW the crowds by hosting specials/sales, live music, artists, open houses, grand openings, non-profits, vendors, school groups and more!  All details will be posted here.
